    Those bulkhead forms, like the bulkhead E form, should have a radius on it for bending the tabs.

  • @bryancotton7279
    @bryancotton7279 6 месяцев назад

    Tell Les that the recommended bend radius for 2024-T3 is 4T, where T is the thickness. So for 0.040, you need a 0.160" radius. What I've done is to bend up a bunch of angles out of flashing. Flashing is soft aluminum and will bend around a really sharp corner without cracking. The flashing I have is 0.010", and I bend it over in half to make it 0.020" thick. So on the first bend of the flashing, the inside radius is 0, and the outside is 0.020". Then I bend another piece of flashing around the first - inside radius is 0.020 (constrained by the first piece of flashing) and the outside radius is 0.040. So do this enough times and you have an outside radius of 0.160", and you can bend your .040" 2024-T3 around that. You have to move the clamping bar on top away from the bend hinge as you add those layers. The Hummelbird uses a lot of 0.040" for structural parts!

    • @1bengrubb
      @1bengrubb 6 месяцев назад

      I'll ask him if the plans state a radius......0.16 is bigger than a 5/16 bolt that's huge

    • @bryancotton7279
      @bryancotton7279 6 месяцев назад

      @@1bengrubb AC 43.13, table 4-6 gives the radius recommendations for different alloys, different thicknesses. 0.16 is what I bent all my 0.040" thick 2024-T3 to. It's a good rule of thumb.

Lots of VW aero engine naysayers here but their experience does not align with my own. My major maintenance expenses has been oil changes and spark plug changes. I change the plugs once a year.

    • @1bengrubb

      Hey I just flipped 207 as well! crazy I started flying June 19 so that's about 41 hours a summer.. when did you start? I love how cheep the engine is to work on... a little TLC on the heads and correcting some of my construction mistakes and its getting more economical all the time. I super recommend the turbo---thats a world of difference over 36" then you can pull it back and cruise as cheap as you want but still have the take off and extra cruise power it you want it...$4k is a lot of cash but man it sure makes it funner to fly.
